My Story (so far)

Hi, I'm Andrew!

For most of my life, I wanted to be an architect

After studying at uni for 7 years and gaining 3 degrees, I qualified, and designed buildings for a decade.

Architecture helped me travel the world. I was fortunate enough to relocate to London, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, designing schools, shopping malls, skyscrapers, and train stations.

But something always felt missing. I felt as though I was repressing a lot of my personality in order to appear professional. Humour, empathy, and self care kinda get shelved when you're working on multi-million dollar projects.

At least, I never felt I could get the balance right.

During the pandemic, that way of life ended

Finding myself out of work was a chance to consider whether I actually wanted to continue in architecture.

In January 2021, nobody seemed to be hiring, so I gave myself six months to explore other career paths better aligned with my interests and character.

It was a really productive time! I produced a LOT of concept art, both 2D & 3D. I reconnected with the piano, guitar, and trombone. But the thing that really struck me was audiobook narration.

I'd started recording a chapter per night to regain the confidence in speaking, and it turned out that I preferred voicing the characters to the narration itself.

That led me to audition for and being cast in my first video games and audio dramas - things I'd loved since I was a child.

I took a beginners' course in voiceover and, at the end of the six months, I started picking up my first paid voice work...

I launched Voices by Andrew in 2021

Over the next couple of years, I expanded the services I could offer, and assembled a growing list of return clients. I studied improv and performed in several troupes. And I tried hard to open up more online and made a lot of new friends.

In 2023, I relocated from Singapore to the UK to be closer to my family. It's been a lot of fun growing new roots, attending in-person events, and meeting voice actor friends I'd only ever spoken to online.

The things that originally drew me to voice acting remain the same; I love the variety, immediacy and creativity of the work, and the warmth and support of the voice acting community.

These are qualities I aim to offer to clients and colleagues alike.

Drop me a message, and let's chat about bringing your project to life!
